Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team opted for a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th place, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber P3, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
