Authorities stated they were contacted by a resident who discovered a automobile in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.

Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.

Officers then located many other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.

A senior representative said the attack left him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
